Compared to most international organizations, the governing process within the IECQ is structured to provide faster response and more direct representation for the customers and suppliers it is designed to serve. The overall responsiveness of IECQ is due, in part, to the fact that it is governed by two permanent committees on which every member is represented. They are the Certification Management Committee (IECQ-CMC) and the Inspectorate Co-ordination Committee (ICC). The former formulates and executes IECQ policies and oversees administration. The latter determines assessment practices and procedures which assure equivalence in the various kinds of approvals that are granted. It also oversees the assessment methods used by inspectorates to assure compliance with IECQ requirements and system-wide reciprocity. Each IECQ member is authorized by a responsible body (e.g. national government, industry associations) and contributes to the running costs of the secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland. Responsibility for the assessment and surveillance of manufacturers, distributors, specialist contractors and independent testing laboratoriesincluding the determination of compliance with ISO 9001 or (for laboratories) ISO/IEC Guide 25rests with Supervising Inspectorates. Every Supervising Inspectorate has been assessed by peers from other Supervising Inspectorates, and accredited by the CMC. Supervising Inspectorates are periodically reassessed. |
