IECQ HSPM: New Global Standard for Hazardous Substance Management

Reduces compliance costs for RoHS, WEEE, SB-50, China RoHS (MII #39) and others not yet released

A New Day

The world has awakened to the deadly consequences of exposure to lead and other hazardous substances built into many of the products we use. Industry representatives from around the world have come together to restrict the use of hazardous substances embedded in electronic components and electrical equipment and eventually in landfills around the world.

Hazardous Substance Free (HSF) Standard: Industry called on the Electronic Components Certification Board (ECCB) www.eccb.org, the U.S. management arm of the International Electrotechnical Commission Quality Assessment System (IECQ) www.iecq.org, to create a workable standard to which all companies could be held accountable. On April 7, 2005, the Management Committee of the IECQ, met in London and voted unanimously to implement internationally the new HSF Standard and Requirements. It is being collaboratively deployed by the Electronic Industry Alliance (EIA) www.eia.org and the ECCB and is titled EIA/ECCB- 954.

IECQ Certification Transcends WEEE and RoHS: Hazardous Substance Process Management (HSPM), the essence of the new IECQ Standard, helps industry move beyond repetitive, costly testing, audits and assessments of suppliers, to voluntary assessments and certification of electronic components and production processes by an accredited third-party. An IECQ Certificate assures the world a company’s production processes and electronic components represent the highest standards of quality and hazardous substance free characteristics. Help Available Now! The new IECQ Standard is redefining the global marketplace today! Leaders and operations management professionals in the electronics, avionics and associated industries need to understand this new standard. Education and training to prepare companies for certification is available now.
